About Us

Obesity is the most common form of malnutrition in the western world. It is a chronic disease with multiple and complex causes, not just a problem of overeating. The control of overweight is a lifetime enterprise. It is very important to understand that medical interventions, including surgery, are not the cure for obesity, but a way of controlling this disease.

About the Program

The Bariatric Program at Winchester Medical Center provides a unique full spectrum of services for the treatment of obesity. Our program offers both medical and surgical treatment options for the disease of obesity. We believe people should have a choice in how they want to manage their weight. Both treatment strategies use a multidisciplinary team approach in the treatment of our patients. We have a strong emphasis on education, not just for our patients, but also for the healthcare professionals in our region. We are able to accomplish this because we have a broad spectrum specialists like dietitians, nurses, exercise specialists, mental health professionals, physicians and surgeons who all work together to improve the health and life of those who have this complex disease.

The Winchester Medical Center Bariatric Program underwent a comprehensive site inspection and was designated as a “Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence” (BSCOE) by the Surgical Review Corporation. This designation demonstrates a continuing commitment to our patients by providing safe, effective, state-of-the-art bariatric surgical care. In the early fall of 2010 Blue Cross and Blue Shield designated the Winchester Medical Center Bariatric Program as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery. The Winchester Medical Bariatric Program is committed to help people achieve a healthier weight. Obesity is a complicated disease, and its effective treatment must be implemented through a multidisciplinary coordinated approach. Blue Distinction is yet another sign that our program is committed to positive outcomes for our patients.
