Paul's Story

I knew I needed to be more active with my kids and more concerned with my health. I had numerous problems with high blood pressure, acid reflux, high blood sugar and sleep apnea. I felt like I couldn't be as active as I wanted to and I was constantly feeling "run down".

I was familiar with the staff and the surgeons involved in the Bariatric Program at Winchester Medical Center. I knew they had a great reputation and I was more than confident in their training, which is why they were the obvious choice when I decided to have gastric bypass surgery.

The procedure and my recovery went just like they told me it would. I had to pay attention to what I drank and ate, but otherwise it was pretty uneventful. They did a great job of making sure I was educated about everything that could possibly happen, so there were no surprises for me.

Today, I'm wonderful! My health problems are gone and I have an incredible amount of energy. My eating and sleeping habits have changed for the better and I feel like I can do all the things I've wanted to do for so long. I even ran a 10K six months after the procedure!

I think the most important thing to understand when considering this procedure is that weight loss surgery isn’t the ultimate solution to lose weight, it’s something that will help you in your journey. Listen to what the doctors and nurses in the program tell you and think about what their information means to you. Everybody out there has an opinion and a story to tell, but you need to listen to the professionals.
